Following a back-and-forth Sunday afternoon regarding Billy Bush’s status as a Today show co-host (and in particular, whether he’d be on-air Monday morning, fresh as a daisy), the show’s chief executive this evening told staffers that it’s a no. More significantly, Bush is currently on suspension from the network entirely.
"I know we’ve all been deeply troubled by the revelations of the past 48 hours," a statement obtained by Us Weekly reads. "Let me be clear — there is simply no excuse for Billy’s language and behavior on that tape. NBC has decided to suspend Billy, pending further review of this matter."
In footage that leaked on Friday afternoon from a 2005 Access Hollywood segment, Bush and Donald Trump are recorded joking about sexual assault and the other nasty shit that apparently constitutes Trump’s other pick-up techniques. One of their targets is actress Arianne Zucker, whom Trump was about to film a cameo on soap opera Days of our Lives with — after engaging Trump in a vulgar discussion about Zucker, Bush encourages the pair to hug it out. It’s all just disgusting.
Bush had apologized on Friday night for his part in the incident, and it had been reported he’d appear on the show Monday to offer a further apology. Clearly NBC execs realized that wasn’t going to cut it (especially with the shame on me, shame on you too Hillary approach Trump seems to be taking in the aftermath). The length of Bush’s suspension is, as yet, unconfirmed, but let’s hope it’s at least longer than, IDK, his partner-in-crime’s fingers?
