Man Crawls Out of the Wreckage of a Car Crash 3 Days After It Killed His Girlfriend

Last weekend, Indiana couple Kevin Bell and Nikki Reed were driving along U.S. Route 50 on their way back from Pennsylvania when Bell suddenly lost control of the vehicle. The car then plummeted off the side of the road and crashed into a tree, instantly killing Reed and leaving Bell with severe injuries to his legs that left him unable to move.
Three days later, he was finally able to pry himself out of the car and crawl up the embankment to get help. A passing motorist saw him, and immediately called the police, who confirmed such a tremendous tragedy is "very rare."
“Nothing I’ve dealt with like this,” Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wheeles told The Washington Post. “Stories pop up occasionally where someone crashes and aren’t found for a while... That’s a pretty rugged, steep embankment. I don’t know how the vehicle didn’t overturn.”
According to multiple sources, family and friends of the couple began to worry after both Reed and Bell stopped answering phone calls and texts on Saturday afternoon. Reed's daughter, Brooklyn, told WHAS-11 that her mom had gone to Pennsylvania to pick up Bell on Friday, and had promised to be home the next day. When she didn't show up, Reed made a Facebook group in order to try and find out about her mother's whereabouts. It has since been turned into a memoriam page.
"Unfortunately, my mom didn't make the crash," her daughter wrote on a YouCaring page to help pay for funeral expenses. "She died instantly. I don't know what happened or how it happened. All I know is that I want this to not be true, I just wish it was a dream! I love my mom so much! I wish she was still here so I can hug her and tell her I love her one more time!"
